Bespoke Chandelier Project - Model, Mould & Polished Porcelain Casts

Luxury lighting company Imagin commissioned me to model and produce the ceramic elements for their brass chandelier, Axis — a pendant inspired by mid-century design and mobile-style movement.

The model was formed by profiling the shape in plaster over a polystyrene core to reduce weight. From this, a plaster mould was cast, with overall dimensions of 70 cm in diameter. The fired porcelain shade measures 45 cm — the high-fired clay undergoes approximately 20% shrinkage, meaning the tooling must be considerably large and heavy, while the finished piece remains surprisingly light and airy.

The images above detail the process of fitting porcelain bowls onto the handmade brass framework. The finished lighting spans over 2 metres and is suspended from the ceiling.
