About the Work: Variations on a theme of the cast vessel - sometimes Helen chops the mould around to make brutalist style geometric shapes that seem to move from side to side, others she's allowed the casting slip to drip and not be cut off but defy gravity when standing upright out of the mould. More recently, Helen has taken to using the vessel form as her Porcelain Canvas Explorations - imagining that the wall hung painting has slid off onto the shelf below. It turns out that painting onto a sphere is not as easy as it looks so a state of meditation and poise is behind the spontaneous and free brush marks.
