200 Miniature Porcelain Artworks made for The Imperial Hotel launch

I often work in miniature to investigate composition and form, building up layers of colour and juxtaposing textures. My pieces caught the attention of an events team, who commissioned 200 porcelain pins for a rooftop hotel launch that took place at the end of summer.

The possibilities are endless — subtle variations from the handmade. Above, glazed porcelain before firing, yet to develop its shine and high-fired finish.

‘Working at this scale, with each piece subtly different, suited how my mind works — it’s always buzzing with ideas, and this project was the perfect challenge’ — Helen Johannessen

The Imperial Hotel, located in Russell Square, London, offers a relaxing and welcoming foyer. For those who enjoy a view, a visit to the rooftop for brunch or cocktails is highly recommended. A seventh-generation, family-run business in the heart of the city.
